Once owned by Liverpool and UK football legend, Kevin Keegan, this 1972 Jaguar E-Type was a wreck. Not anymore.
UK E-Type restoration house, E-Type UK, was tasked with restoring this mess of a 1972 E-Type back to showroom condition. Once owned by UK football legend, Kevin Keegan, the current owner of this E-Type was involved in a collision leaving the thing a mess.
Fortunately, once the body was stripped back, the chassis was found to be straight, meaning the damage was only superficial. Anyone whoโs ever restored a wreck of an old car would have breathed a sigh of relief at that news. Unfortunately, the E-Type had been in a number of collisions since the 1970s and had been badly repaired.
The workshop team removed the poorly repaired offside sill and top scuttle, fitting new ones, before reshaping the vehicleโs bonnet back to its iconic curve. After the Series 3 had its metalwork repaired, it was then filled and primed ready for its respray. Restoring the seamless 1970s lines, all panels were cleaned, hardened, and block-sanded in preparation for respray. To keep the E-Type authentic, the owner wanted it finished in its original Willow Green.
Once the exterior of the vehicle was completed, the interior leather was trimmed in biscuit with a matching mohair hood, complementing the exterior paint job to restore the vehicle to its celebrity status.
In line with the ownerโs wishes, all of the brightwork was re-chromed before fitting a range of minor upgrades โ such as a period-style number plate, side mirrors, and factory standard steel wheels.
E-Type UK Founder, Marcus Holland said: โWe are particularly proud of this restoration and delighted with the way that it looks after spending time in our workshop. The owner was particularly upset after the car was involved in an accident and wanted us to restore it to its former glory. With its celebrity past due to Kevin Keeganโs former ownership, we worked hard to bring it back to factory standard, with a glorious Willow Green finish. Not only are we delighted to have delivered our client with his car back in perfect condition but we are honored to have played a part in the ongoing story of this iconic British sportscar”.
