Updated Kia Stinger here by year’s end

Updated Kia Stinger

Here are the first images of the updated Kia Stinger which will go on-sale in Australia before the end of this year.

When the Kia Stinger arrived in Australia it carried the baggage of having to keep us all happy after the death of “affordable” rear-drive performance cars. It’s fair to say that it hasn’t been embraced in quite the same way and you can’t help but think some sort of Supercars appearance, if even only for a year, might have boosted its appeal…

Anyway, Kia will be hoping its updated Stinger will woo more buyers. And it’s clear the brand is hoping to win buyers who might be considering more expensive metal. Kia said, “Changes to the appearance of the enhanced model amplify its gran turismo character, while improving cabin quality and giving owners more choice of colour and material”.

The changes aren’t huge with the Stinger on the outside, consisting mainly of tweaks to the headlights and DRLs. And, at the back, the taillights and brake lights have been chopped up giving the Stinger a new rear light signature. The new indicator lights feature 10 LEDs arranged in a grid pattern to mimic a checkered flag.

Those buying the top-spec Stinger will be able to specify larger wide-bore bright silver exhaust mufflers, “with a more purposeful, performance-inspired rear diffuser”. And there are new 18-inch and 19-inch wheel designs.

Kia Australia hasn’t said yet whether we’ll get the  new ‘Dark Package’ which consists of a gloss black diffuser surround and black wide-bore muffler tips. The Stinger emblem on the tailgate is also finished in black.

Depending on specification, the dashboard and doors are finished with new contrast stitching while the centre console is available with aluminium or carbon fibre-style trim. Dominating the cabin is a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment and navigation system, accented by a glossy black finish. The cabin also features a new mood lighting system, allowing drivers to select one of 64 colours to subtly alter the character of the cabin. Party time.

Beyond that, the Stinger is as it was. The engines will be carried over with Kia Australia telling MotoFomo it will release further details closer to the launch of the thing towards the end of the year.
