The all-electric Ford Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 prototype wonโt hurt your ears and doesnโt use fuel โ itโs chasing an eight-second quarter mile.
Ford has released images and video of its latest prototype, the one-off Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 which itโs hoping will nail the quarter mile in just eight seconds. This battery-powered drag racer makes a staggering 1400hp, hence the name.
โFord has always used motorsport to demonstrate innovation,โ said Dave Pericak, Global Director, Ford Icons. โElectric powertrains give us a completely new kind of performance and the all-electric Cobra Jet 1400 is one example of pushing new technology to the absolute limit. Weโre excited to showcase whatโs possible in an exciting year when we also have the all-electric Mustang Mach-E joining the Mustang family.โ
Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 is a hat-tip to the original Cobra Jet that dominated drag strips in the late 1960s.
“This project was a challenge for all of us at Ford Performance, but a challenge we loved jumping into,โ said Mark Rushbrook, Global Director, Ford Performance Motorsports. โWe saw the Cobra Jet 1400 project as an opportunity to start developing electric powertrains in a race car package that we already had a lot of experience with, so we had performance benchmarks we wanted to match and beat right now. This has been a fantastic project to work on, and we hope the first of many coming from our team at Ford Performance Motorsports.”
The Cobra Jet 1400 will get its public debut later this year, according to Ford.
