ARB has released its all-new BASE Rack that sees the brand enter the world of platform roof racks and take on the likes of Rhino-Rack and Front Runner.
Platform-style roof racks are all the rage right now with just about every single 4×4 you see running around fitted with one, and now ARB wants a piece of the action with its BASE Rack system.
According to ARB, the BASE Rack system is a ” a fully welded extruded aluminium design with beams that run the width of the vehicle, the BASE Rack has the strength of the steel racks at a fraction of the weight”. More than that, the off-road accessories maker claims its rack doesn’t need a sub-frame and so can be mounted closer to the roof.
Similar to the latest Rhino-Rack Pioneer system, the BASE Rack is constructed using box aluminium for all beams, and features removable corner caps which allow electrical cables to be fed through for roof lighting and solar panels. And because customisation is important, the BASE Rack can be kept as a flat rack with no rails or there are cost-optional rails (¼-inch, ¾-inch, trade or full rails).
While some brands drip-feed their accessories, ARB has hit the market with a whole raft of gear for the BASE Rack system. There’s a wind deflector, guard rail system as mentioned earlier, eye-bolt tie downs, spring-loaded tie-downs which are designed for one-handed operation, a ratchet strap with the traditional J-hook replaced by a custom dovetail design, spare wheel Y-strap, awning bracket, a high-lift jack holder, a roller kit, roof rack light bar, recovery track holder, gas bottle holder which can handle a gas bottle from 2kg to 9kg, a jerry can holder, and a T-slot adaptor.
ARB said it will be releasing more accessories for the BASE Rack in the coming months. Until then, the price starts from $1140 and is available in a range of sizes to suit a variety of 4x4s.

Below is a list of canopies and vehicles that BASE Rack mounting systems will be available for at the time of launch. ARB said mount kits are not available for all rack sizes for all vehicles and canopies; customers are encouraged to contact their local ARB store or stockist for more details.
