Audi A6 allroad quattro 45 TDI lobs Down Under

Audi A6 allroad arrives in Australia

Despite the marketing speak that the A6 allroad quattro 45 TDI has a โ€œflair for the great outdoorsโ€ itโ€™s really best left for winery visitsโ€ฆ

Meet the updated Audi A6 allroad quattro 45 TDI which has just arrived in Australia and is available now from $109,500 plus on-road costs. Thereโ€™s plenty of talk in Audiโ€™s press release about this thing being rugged but letโ€™s be honest here, the A6 allroad is despite itโ€™s genius quattro all-wheel drive system, best left for well graded dirt roads into a winery. And thereโ€™s nothing wrong with that.

It looks good and according to Audi thereโ€™s $15,000 worth of extras. Thereโ€™s that big wide singleframe grille with the clever Matrix LED headlights, and some aluminium design flourishes. It rides on 20-inch Audi Sport alloy wheels and has an electric tailgate with gesture control, illuminated door sill trims (with aluminium inlays) and door LEDs with ‘allroad’ projection. Iโ€™m a sucker for a puddle lamp.

Sure, the Audi allroad has one of the best all-wheel drive systems on the planet and the adaptive air suspension system can be raised, dependent on the road speed and choice of driving mode (applied within the Audi drive select function) to improve ground clearance but this isnโ€™t a rock hopper. I mean, the ground clearance is up to 184mm โ€ฆ a Subaru Outback offers more than 200mm.

Under the bonnet is a 3.0-litre six-cylinder TDI engine producing 183kW and 600 Nm. The A6 allroad quattro can reach 100km/h from rest in just 6.5 seconds, returning 6.6 litres per 100km. The transmission is an eight-speed automatic.

On the inside, the new MMI Navigation system offers dual touchscreens (10.1-inch and 8.6-inch) and the marvellous (12.3-inch) Audi virtual cockpit. Thereโ€™s wireless Apple and Android connectivity and four USB outlets (two in the front and two in the back).

The A6 allroad is well equipped but, like all European brands the cost-options list is long. But one of the packs worth considering, if youโ€™ve got the coin, is the Premium plus package (from $8900) which includes, privacy glass for rear (and rear side) windows, HD Matrix LED headlights, electric steering column adjustment, panoramic glass sunroof, Bang & Olufsen 3D Sound System, four-zone climate control (up from three-zone standard), LED colour interior lighting package and a choice of two 21-inch alloy wheel options.
