The aggressive looking Hyundai Sonata N Line should be a hoot with 213kW and 422Nm…look out Kia Stinger. Sort of.
Arriving very late this year, allegedly, the new Hyundai Sonata N Line has been revealed overseas. And it looks good. And it’s the most powerful Sonata ever. It’ll also be the only Sonata on-sale in Australia and is aimed squarely at the Kia Stinger only that model is rear drive and the Sonata front-drive…
This isn’t a full-house N model but it’ll be no slouch, running a 2.5-litre turbocharged GDi engine, mated to Hyundai’s new N eight-speed wet Dual-Clutch Transmission (N DCT) that was developed just for N vehicles. This donk makes 213kW and 422Nm of torque (1650-4000 rpm).
Trainspotters might think, hang on, isn’t just the same engine as the regular Sonata which won’t be coming to Australia (the Sonata N Line will be standalone). Well, yes but no. Hyundai’s engineers have fiddled with the internals (they’re new) and there are different cylinder heads so the wick could be turned up.
Beyond the beefier engine engineers have given the Sonata N-Line a unique suspension tune (via firmer bushes, higher spring rates and tweaked shock absorber valving and larger sway bars front and rear) and stiffened the chassis.
The Sonata N Line weighs in at 1636kg and runs upgraded brakes front and rear. And because no car these days can be released without launch control, the Sonata N Line will come with launch control…
“Sonata N Line’s turbocharged engine is up to the task of delivering big fun, and the new gearbox provides a direct connection and instant shifts,” said Thomas Schemera, Executive Vice President, Head of the Product Division at Hyundai Motor Group. “To make the Sonata N Line drive sportier, we’ve lowered the car and honed the suspension.”
Beyond performance, the new Sonata N Line will get Hyundai’s full suite of active safety features as well as a 10.25 inch touchscreen infotainment system with split screens and dual Bluetooth pairing (meaning two phones can be paired at once). The digital instrument cluster measures 12.3 inches.
