Nissan Navara updated with improved active safety features, a stronger rear axle and new front-end design borrowed from the Nissan Titan.
The updated Nissan Navara has had the hanky whipped off it in a series of virtual reveals around the world today with Nissan dropping the N-Trek variant, replacing it with the Navara Pro-4X. The new Navara will arrive here early next year with pricing and final specs to be revealed closer to the local launch.
The first thing you notice is the new-look grille which has been inspired by the larger Nissan Titan and the quad-shape LED headlights. Here’s how the marketers describe the grille, and I hope you’re sitting down, “Thicker and vertical in shape, the interlocking frame grille gives the impression that it is coming out and grabbing the engine”. Hmmm. Moving on.
Beyond the grille and headlights, the tray has been redesigned, there’s a stronger rear axle which has allowed for a wholesale increase in the payload to 1200kg, and a new steering rack too. There’s a new rear step and tailgate assister springs, and on the inside there’s increased insulation to make the cabin quieter, there’s a new steering wheel and a revised dash layout with an eight-inch infotainment screen boasting Apple and Android connectivity.
The rear seats have been redesigned and are now “more comfortable for passengers, with upgrades to the seat cushions and back shapes. For added convenience, passengers in the back can also now utilize the new rear armrest with built-in cup holders to store beverages or smartphones,” Nissan said.
And to keep the updated Navara in line with other new dual cab offerings, Nissan has thrown its Intelligent Mobility and safety package at the thing. Part of the safety upgrade is the Intelligent Forward Collision Monitor which is able to see not just the car in front of you but the one in front of that car, to help avoid multi-car collisions. It also offers autonomous emergency braking and an around view monitor to make it easier to see what’s going on around you. Added to this is a new feature for off-roading, so, when you shift into four-wheel drive the camera system can be used to check on obstacles around the vehicle.
Beyond these updates, the refreshed Navara is carried over from the old one, with the engine and transmissions, suspension tune, and brakes all the same.
