Is the Torsus Praetorian Overlander the ultimate off-road RV?

Torsus Praetorian Overlander

The Torsus Praetorian Overlander is based on the brandโ€™s off-road school bus and is decked out with every imaginable creature comfort.

Meet the Torsus Praetorian Overlander. This thing is based on the award-winning Torsus Praetorian school bus which the Czech company claims is the โ€œworldโ€™s first heavy-duty 4×4 off-road bus,โ€ and who are we to dispute that claim.

Boasting up to 389mm of ground clearance (fording depth of 700mm), the Praetorian Overlander will sleep four people, offers a full kitchen and bathroom, satellite TV, plenty of storage and thatโ€™s just the basics. The makers reckon you can option the thing with whatever your heart desires.

The hardware is impressive. It stands 3.7m tall and is built off a modified MAN TGM chassis running a MAN six-cylinder diesel engine making 213kW and 925Nm of torque. This is mated to a ZF automatic transmission. Itโ€™s got low-range with front and rear differential locks and rides on 20-inch alloys wrapped in Michelin 395/85 R20 XZL TL rubber. The fibreglass body is a Torsus design and the underbody is painted in raptor coating.

If you remove the spare wheel from underneath the Praetorian youโ€™ll get a rampover angle of 41-degrees, with a 32-degree approach and 26-degree departure angle. But thereโ€™s moreโ€ฆ For serious off-grid adventuring, Torsus has dreamed up an off-road ready trailer that can either be left empty as a toy hauler or have a kitchen, or sleeping quarters or whatever you want.

And donโ€™t think this is only for Europe because Queensland-based Bus 4×4 is the local agent for Torsus. It lists the price for the base vehicle at $351,000 not including the cost of the fit-out and on-roads.
