Lamborghini Sian Roadster: Drop Top Screamer

Sian Roadster

Lamborghini has revealed its Sian Roadster which together with the hard-headed version are the most powerful cars itโ€™s ever made.

Nothing like feeling your hair being ripped out by the wind as youโ€™re screaming to 100km/h in just 2.9 seconds. Yep, the convertible Lamborghini Sian Roadster is that fast.

But, the Sian is not just the most powerful, it’s also the first hybrid supercar that Lamborghini has built. The Sianโ€™s powertrain combines the V12 engine with a 34hp 48-volt electric motor. The e-motor also supports low-speed maneuvers such as reversing and parking with electric power. All up the package punches out 602kW.

While most electric vehicles run lithium batteries, Lamborghini is running what it calls Supercapacitor which is able to hold 10 times the power as the same sized lithium battery. Three times more powerful than a battery of the same weight and three times lighter than a battery producing the same power, the electric system with the supercapacitor and e-motor weighs only 34 kg, delivering a weight-to-power ratio of 1.0 kg/hp, Lamborghini said. The e-motor disconnects at 130km/h.

The Lamborghini Siรกn Roadster incorporates a sophisticated regenerative braking system, especially developed by Lamborghini. The symmetric behavior of the supercapacitor, which contrary to normal Li-Ion batteries can be charged and discharged with the same power, fully charges the Sianโ€™s energy storage system every time the vehicle brakes.

โ€œThe Siรกn Roadster encapsulates the spirit of Lamborghini,โ€ says Stefano Domenicali, Automobili Lamborghini Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. โ€œIt is the expression of breathtaking design and extraordinary performance, but most importantly embodies important future technologies. The Siรกnโ€™s innovative hybrid powertrain heralds the direction for Lamborghini super sports cars, and the open-top Siรกn Roadster affirms a desire for the ultimate lifestyle Lamborghini as we move towards a tomorrow demanding new solutions.โ€
