The LAMs approved Trident 660 will arrive in Australia and is expected to be priced from $10k.
The Trident 660 will arrive in February (2021) with pricing expected to kick off at $10,999, although Triumph has said final pricing will be confirmed closer to arrival.
The 660 boasts a 660cc three-cylinder making 39.8kW and 59Nm of torque meeting the requirements of LAMs approval. The engine has been tweaked to suit the 660 with more than 67 new parts to differentiate it from other models. It’s mated to a six-speed gearbox – a shift up and down assistant is available as a cost-option allowing you to shift up or down with engaging the clutch.
The 660 offers a seat height of 805mm and it weighs just 189kg and rolls on lightweight 17-inch alloys wrapped in Michelin Road 5 rubber (you can get a tyre pressure monitor as a cost option). Trident said the seat had been designed to suit rider and pillion with pillion grab handles available as a cost option.
The Trident 660 features Showa upside down separate function forks at the front which offer 120mm front wheel travel, while on the rear it’s got Showa preload adjustable monoshock rear suspension unit with linkage. “With preload adjustability of the rear suspension and 133.5mm rear wheel travel, the Trident has been set-up to carry a pillion rider whilst maintaining its outstanding handling and exciting riding experience,” Triumph said.
What about brakes? There are two-piston Nissin sliding front calipers with twin lightweight 310mm discs on the front, and single piston Nissin rear caliper on the rear disc. ABS is standard. And the traction control boasts two settings, Road and Rain which adjusts throttle mapping and engine power.
The all-new dashboard for the 660 features a TFT screen with a ‘white-on-black’ design. Add on the ‘My Triumph Connectivity System’ accessory module, and you’ll get turn-by-turn navigation, GoPro control and phone and music control, all via Bluetooth, using the handlebar mounted switch cubes.
The headlight is an all-new seven-inch LED and so are the indicators which are self-cancelling; a scrolling function can be added as a cost option too. You can get heated handlebars and an underseat USB outlet. In all, there are 45 dedicated accessories available for the Trident 660.
The Trident 660 is available in four different colours schemes, Silver Ice with Diablo Red accents, Matt Black with Matt Silver Ice accents, Crystal White and Sapphire Black.
Triumph reckons the Trident 660 requires the “lowest level of workshop time in the category” with a claimed total 8.3 hours of service time compared to the segment average of more than 11 hours, across a three-year service period. Wow. Service intervals are 12 months or 16,000km and there’s a two-year unlimited kilometre warranty.
