It might look like itโs straight from the 1960s but this AC Cobra carries an 230kW electric motor.
The AC Cobra is an automotive icon and now the company is planning to bring it bang up to date by slapping an electric drivetrain into the thing. Yep, 1960s looks with a 21st century drivetrain. Only 58 will be built to celebrate the 58 years since the release of the first Series 1 Cobra.
Details are still fairly light, but the AC said the electric car will be identical to the original Cobra Series 1 with just the necessary modifications to take the electric drivetrain. That said, stuff like steering, brakes and a suspension will be bang up to 2020 standards, the brand said.
Expected to begin deliveries at the end of this year, itโll retail from almost $200,000.
According to AC, the motor will be a 54kWh jobbie making 230kW and 500Nm (peak) and 250Nm continuous with a driving range of around 200km. Itโs expected to hit 100km/h in just 6.7 seconds.
If you want to stick with burning dead dinosaurs, AC has announced its Charter Edition Cobra which runs the same 2.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine as both the Mustang EcoBoost and Focus ST. It too will be limited to just 58 cars.
