Cosmetic tweaks, some minor engine work and a new digital display headline changes to the ‘new’ Mini Countryman.
The ‘new’ Mini Countryman is still the biggest Mini you can buy, it’s still just a crossover for those who want the Mini vibe but don’t want to be sensible and buy something bigger and, er, more practical.
It’s also still based on a BMW. Yep, the Mini Countryman shares its platform with the BMW X2. The changes to this new Countryman are largely superficial, with a redesigned radiator grille, bumper, and a revised lower intake at the front. Oh, and don’t forget the new rear bumper.
All lights are now LED as standard with the daytime running lights doubling up as turn indicator lights. At the rear, new light graphics trace the outline of a Union Jack motif. Wheels run from 16 to 19-inches with new wheel designs being offered, Channel Spoke Black and Turnstile Spoke 2-tone. On the inside, there’s the option of a new 5.0-inch digital instrument cluster.
The engines are all carried over (three petrol and one PHEV) but Mini reckons it’s tweaked them for efficiency. Indeed, the PHEV’s range has increased to 55-61 kilometres. One of the petrol engine tweaks includes a revised exhaust manifold integrated in the cylinder.
Pricing and final specifications will be announced closer to the launch at the end of the year.
