This is the new Jaguar F-Pace and it can be plugged in. Has a bigger grille and a power bulge in the bonnet. And more.
Crusty old Jaguar fans may tut-tut at the notion of Jaguar making an SUV but let’s face facts; SUVs sell. Like hot cakes. The world has changed blah-de-blah.
So, this is the updated Jaguar F-Pace. Jaguar suggests the changes are subtle, much like when it updated the XE last year. But they make a big difference. Same as they did with the XE.
For a start it now looks more aggressive on the outside thanks to that bulge in the bonnet and the gaping grille. The front bumper’s been redesigned and the designers have played with contrasting colours to give it a wider more hunkered down look. It works.
There are also new, slimline LED daytime running lights with Premium LED lighting standard across the range. And, if you plump for the Pixel LED tech then the lighting becomes clever enough to blank out oncoming traffic so as not to dazzle them all while other parts of the road will be lit up by your high beam.
On the inside is where the most change has taken place. There’s an 11.4-inch curved glass infotainment screen (which has its own power source for instant start-up) dominating the dash, there are new door casings, seats and centre console design. There’s a new gear shifter too. And you can purify the air at the press of a button if you want.
Let’s talk about engines. There are a raft of petrol and diesel engines and most are mild-hybrid setups, meaning they have a supplementary battery system harvesting lost energy from braking, etc to provide a bit of extra oomph when pulling away from a standing start. The top-spec 404PS petrol engine is a plug-in hybrid (or PHEV) and it can run in electric mode for around 52 kilometres. Fast Charging (32kW DC) is capable of delivering 0-80% charge in 30 minutes while a domestic 7kW wall box can provide a charge of 0-80% in as little as one hour 40 minutes.
All engines run the same eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. And all vehicles get all-wheel drive with a rear-wheel drive bias. The updated F-Pace also boasts active noise cancelling which filters out both road and engine noise by firing sound waves back at the ‘noise’.
Jaguar Australia hasn’t announced pricing yet for the updated F-Pace but we’d expect them to have something out very soon. Stay tuned.
