Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series breaks Nurburgring lap record

Mercedes-AMG GT Series

The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series has been blasted around the Nurburgring in a blistering 6min48.047secs.

Almost takes me longer to make a cup of coffee than itโ€™s taken for Marco Engel to thrash a Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series around the Nordschleife of the Nรผrburgring (full track). He did it in 6min48.047secs.

With the most powerful V8 engine stuffed into an AMG (537kW) The GT Black Series is essentially a GT3 racer for the road. With its adaptive dampers and drive modes, GT3 racer Engel turned everything up to 11 (you know what I mean) opting for the hardest settings for everything.

The record-setting GT Black Series ran standard fit (but far from standard) soft compound MICHELIN Pilot Sport Cup 2 R MO tyres and ceramic brakes as well as the Track Pack which includes four-point harness and a rollover protection system.

โ€œThat was a really impressive ride,โ€ said Maro Engel after completing the record lap. โ€œWith speeds of up to almost 270km/h in the Kesselchen section of the track or well over 300 km/h on the long Dรถttinger Hรถhe straight, the AMG GT Black Series is significantly faster than my GT3 race car. To finally drive around the Nordschleife in 6:48.047 minutes with a production road car in these track conditions is really awesome. Like my GT3 race car, the AMG GT Black Series offers a lot of adjustment possibilities, all of which enabled me to create a setup that was tailor-made for me.โ€
