The Mercedes-Benz G 400 d will go on-sale in Australia from $200k to try and woo Land Rover Defender buyers.
The only real competitor of things like the Wranger Rubicon and Land Rover Defender, the Mercedes-Benz G Class 400 d is joining the local lineup. Clearly the aim is to woo those who might be tempted by the new Defender although with a price tag of more than $200k ($233,900+ORC ) you can buy a Defender and have plenty of coin leftover. It’s even pricier than the V8 Defender announced last week.
No slouch, the G 400 d boasts the most powerful passenger vehicle diesel engine in Merc’s history. The 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo-diesel thumps out 243kW and 700Nm of torque. This runs through a nine-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels.
For off-road work there are three locking differentials and low-range can be selected on the move. The G 400 d gets adaptive damping as standard in Australia.
But it’s not all hard work and no play. You get a 15-speaker Burmester sound system, tri-zone climate control, electric front seat adjustments, heated front seats, 360-degree camera, infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and much more.
The G 400 d gets a Stainless Steel Pack as standard, which includes a protective strip, running boards and spare wheel cover as well as chrome treatment around the radiator, dark tinted glass for the back windows, and 19-inch alloys. Tyre pressure monitoring is standard and the thing is pre-wired for a towbar.
