Mountain crusher: Yamaha YDX-Moro e-bike detailed

Yamaha YDX-Moro prices and details released

Yamaha Bicycles teased the YDX-Moro last week and has now released prices and full details of its ground-breaking e-bike.

The Yamaha YDX-MORO and Pro models were revealed last week but Yamaha Bicycles kept back some key details. Overnight it revealed prices and key details. Both e-bikes feature Yamahaโ€™s new PW-X2 motor which boasts a proprietary Quad Sensor System with an angle sensor, along with new Automatic, MTB and Walk Assist modes.ย

One of the headline grabbing features is the speed sensor in the rear hub. This recognises when the rider has slowed down or sped up and will automatically adjust the motor input to ensure smooth performance. Pretty cool.

The bikes also feature a new patent pending Dual Twin frame. The frame is the same for both e-bikes but the suspension is different, the Moro gets front and rear RockShox suspension (RockShox Revelation RC fork and Deluxe Select+ rear shock). The Moro Pro variant runs a YARI RC fork and Super Deluxe Select+ rear shock. Both suspension types run RockShox refreshed DebonAir air spring and Motion Control damper with a total of 160mm of travel.

The YDX-Moro runs a Shimano SLX 11-speed package, along with a KMC e11 Turbo chain. The YDX-MORO Pro model is equipped with the performance Shimano setup, including an XT shifter, long-cage derailleur, and 11-speed 11/46T cassette, driven by a KMC e11 Turbo EPT chain. Brakes are the same for both MT30 brakes and 203mm Storm CL Rotors, although the Moro only runs four-piston brakes at the front, while the Moro Pro runs four piston brakes at the front and back.

The tyres are different for each model too, although the wheel sizes are the same (27.5+ x 2.8). The YDX-MORO Pro is equipped with Maxxis High Roller II 27.5 x 2.8-inch tires in both the front and rear. The YDX-MORO is equipped with a CST BFT 27.5 x 2.8-inch tire in the front and a CST Patrol 27.5 x 2.8-inch tire in the rear. Both models feature tubeless compatible rims and rim strips.

โ€œWe couldnโ€™t be more excited for people to experience how our new drive unit and new frame design work as-one. Weโ€™ve created a never-felt-before level of rider control and balance with our Dual-Twin frame design in perfect alignment with the powerful and easy functionality of the new PW-X2 drive unit,โ€ said Drew Engelmann, Yamahaโ€™s Power Assist Bicycle group sales and marketing manager. โ€œYamaha has designed this bike to deliver on its promise to bring a new level of unified power and performance to all types of e-MTB trails, and with these quality components, weโ€™re rounding out the package to make these YDX-MORO models an absolutely phenomenal ride.โ€

In terms of pricing, the YDX-Moro is priced from USD$4499 and the Moro Pro is priced at USD$5499. The Moro will only be available in Desert Yellow and the Pro will be exclusive in Podium Blue/Nickel. Deliveries in the US will begin in September but donโ€™t expect to see them Down Under. Sigh.
