Nissan dropped its A to Z teaser overnight and immediately broke the Internet with a starring role from the all-new 240Z-inspired 400Z sports car.
Well, at least we expect it to be called 400Z. Nissan recently applied to trademark the tweaked version of its famous Z logo, as you can see in the video below. There are almost no details about the new sports car which is expected to lob in 2021, so most of what youโll be reading online will be pure speculation, even if it does say, from a source within the companyโฆ
Anyway, itโs clearly an evolution of the 370Z which is the oldest car in Nissanโs line-up, but we reckon itโs got more than a hint of 240Z about it. That is, of course, the car that started it all back in 1969, although it was called a Datsun 240Z back then.
The teaser followed a global press conference online where Nissan and itโs alliance partners, Renault and Mitsubishi each revealed plans for the future. That involved suggestion the new next-generation Nissan Navara and Mitsubishi Triton would be one and the same…but while some outlets are making out as if this is headline grabbing stuff, well, weโve long known, nudge-nudge that that would be the case; that Mitsubishi would take the lead on development of the next-gen ute.
But, back to the 400Z. The rumour mill suggests the engine will be a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 and that the platform is likely to be shared with the Infiniti Q50 and Q60. Going forward, more brands will be looking to save money by sharing platforms and shaving costs.
Stay tuned for more on the 400Z.
