The long-teased limited-run Nissan GT-R 50 by ItalDesign has finally been revealed…and it’s more than just a set of new clothes.
The car that was promised. Itโs been a concept, a computer rendering of the concept and then it was nothing. A rumour. And now itโs finally here. Meet the extremely limited-run Nissan GT-R 50 by ItalDesign. Those who know their car history will know that ItalDesign tinkered around with Nissan in the 1970s.
Thatโs right, what youโre looking at here is a collaboration between Nissan and the legendary Italian design studio, Italdesign. And itโs more than just a good looker. Based on the GT-R Nismo the GT-R 50 by ItalDesign gets bespoke metalwork, bigger turbos, larger intercooler, new exhaust, pistons, rings, bigger brakes and a tougher gearbox. The tweaked 3.8-litre V6 now thumps out around 530kW.
But thereโs more to the monster than that. The thing is longer, wider and lower than a regular GTR Nismo, indeed the roofline is 54mm lower. And, of course, thereโs the whopping adjustable rear wing that ainโt on the standard car.
There will only be 50 GT-R 50 by ItalDesign vehicles produced and there are still a few available but it ainโt cheap at around $1 million. Thereโs talk some of the not-yet-sold cars might end up with customer racers.
The plan had been to show off the GT-R 50 by ItalDesign at the Geneva Motor Show in March but that event was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, it was live streamed from the Tazio Nuolari race track where ItalDesign performs its engineering work for type approval.
