Group B was the pinnacle of WRC, when the sport was at its most bonkers, and this crazy collection of legends is going to auction.
Group B. Here at MotoFomo we love everything to do with it. And coming across this auction lot of seven Group B heroes has had us frothing and madly rifling through the kidโs piggy banks.
Being auctioned off tomorrow (our time) are these seven stunning Group B heroes. Offered via Artcurial Motorcars are the combination of two collections, owned by motor racing enthusiasts, Michel Hommell, founder of the Manoir de lโAutomobile in Lohรฉac, and Olivier Quesnel, the former director of competition departments at Peugeot and later Citroรซn.
Indeed, both blokes started amassing these cars not long after the plug was pulled on Group B in 1986, and all have been housed in a museum. Although weโre not so sure the Lancia is as fresh as it could be after whoever was driving it for the short teaser video nearly binned at the very end of the clip.
So, what are we looking at? Well, thereโs a 1985 Lancia 037 wearing Martini colours. This is the beastie that booted the Audi Quattro S1 off its throne taking out the 1983 WRC title. Thereโs a Peugeot 205 T16 which won the 1986 Tour de Corse with Bruno Saby at the wheel. And it competed in the 1986 WRC.
Thereโs an MG Metro 6R4 which won the French Rally Championship with Didier Auriol at the wheel. An R5 Turbo driven by Carlos Sainz, and an RS 2000, as well as a Lancia Delta Integrale and a 1988 Audi Quattro S1 driven by Walter Rรถhrl.
The whole collection is expected to fetch in the region of โฌ3.63m.
