Toyota finds 100 more GR Yaris hot hatches…

Toyota GR Yaris

Toyota sold its initial release of 1000 200kW GR Yaris hot hatches in just one week and itโ€™s secured 100 more.

Thereโ€™s a catch, though. See, while the first 1000 listed at $39,950 driveaway (almost $10k less than the retail price) this next 100 cars are being offered at $44,950 driveaway. Thatโ€™s still cheaper than the retail price and before on-roads too.

Unlike the online offer, this lot will be offered exclusively through Toyota dealerships. Even with the price going up, the GR Yaris represents incredible value when you consider its performance chops.

Making the announcement, Toyota Australia Vice President Sales and Marketing Sean Hanley said, “We deliberately set out to make GR Yaris attainable for sports-car fans – and I’d have to say that even we were a little surprised at how quickly the first Toyota sports car in more than 20 years ignited the market,” Mr Hanley said.

“At the new price, GR Yaris continues to have a significant price advantage over equivalent performance cars costing more than $50,000,” he said.

“It also remains keenly competitive against conventional hot hatches, while having a decided performance advantage.”

The GR Yaris runs a 200kW/370Nm 1.6-litre three-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Toyota reckons the โ€œperformance brakes are engineered to cope with rigorous demands of high-speed track drivingโ€. We canโ€™t wait to put that claim to the test.

And the even hotter GR Yaris Rallye special-edition is coming next year with pricing to be announced closer to the launch.
