The updated BMW R nineT will arrive Down Under at the beginning of next year (2021) and boasts mechanical and tech updates.
The BMW R nineT first launched back in 2013 and was a real mashup for BMW, showcasing classic design and modern technology. The updated model for 2021 (pricing and final spec to be announced closer to the launch) is about providing greater choice for customers, according to BMW Motorrad.
Starting with the engine, there are new cylinder heads for more torque (thanks to a new turbulence system inside the heads), improved cooling and updated covers to make the thing look better. Peak power and torque is 80kW and 116Nm.
The R nineT gets a new shock absorber with travel-dependent damping and the ability to adjust the spring via a hand wheel, with rain and road modes included as standard. To help keep you upright, the R nineT gets ABS Pro and Dynamic Brake Control as standard. Riding Modes Pro with the additional modes “Dyna” for the R nineT and R nineT Pure and “Dirt” for the R nineT Scrambler and R nineT Urban G/S are available, as are DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) and engine drag torque control (MSR).
The Comfort Package, which includes Riding Modes Pro, cruise control and heated handlebar grips, will be standard on Australian-delivered R nineT and Urban G/S and cost-optional for the R nineT Pure and R nineT Scrambler.
What about styling? Well, it gets a circular instrument cluster with LED lighting units and a USB outlet. The new R nineT models also now have an LED headlamp and white indicator lights. And there will be plenty of options to choose from to make the R nineT your own, like the Option 719 pack which includes unique wheel, milled parts package and, delving into the back catalogue, a rear conversion with short rear end and number plate holder behind the rear wheel, as well as a rear end in tracker style (called, Tracker rear end). The Urban G/S will be offered exclusively in Australia in the “Edition 40 Years GS” scheme, to mark the 40th anniversary of the BMW Motorrad GS family.
