Updated Toyota Fortuner boasts 3100kg towing figure to match Everest

Toyota Fortuner here in August

The updated Toyota Fortuner has copped a much needed kick with more power, torque and increased towing capacity.

You could call it one of the worst performers in the Toyota lineup but that could be about to change. Arriving Down Under at around the same time as the new HiLux, the refreshed Fortuner has a much improved look and shares much of the same mechanical upgrades as the HiLux.

Indeed, the 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine gets the same power and torque bumps to 150kW and 500Nm. And the 300kg braked towing capacity increase to 3100kg sees the Fortuner match the Ford Everest.

Toyota Australia Vice President Sales and Marketing Sean Hanley said, โ€œCustomers will appreciate the extra performance from the high-torque engine, coupled with impressive fuel economy, smoothness and quietness – whether they’re on the school run or heading into the great outdoorsโ€.

The refreshed Fortuner carries on with its GX, GXL and Crusade equipment grades, each displaying a unique surround for the larger black grille, restyled bumpers with a “skid-plate design”, more prominent fog lamp bezels and slimmer headlamps upgraded to LEDs. Crusade is equipped with a new LED tail light cluster.

On the inside, like the HiLux, thereโ€™s a new 8-inch infotainment system with Apple and Android connectivity. Satellite navigation and digital (DAB) radio is available as a cost option with the GX and standard on the GXL and Crusade.
