Walkinshaw-tuned VW Amarok W580 Revealed

Amarok W580

After more than 12-months of secrecy, Volkswagen has revealed the fruits of its collaboration with Walkinshaw. Meet the Amarok W580.

The Volkswagen Amarok W580 will go on-sale both in dealerships and online from 1 December (2020) with pricing and final spec to be revealed then – deliveries will begin in April 2021. VW said, today, that the W580 was the result of 12-months of secret collaboration between it and tuning house Walkinshaw.

Quick to emphasise the W580 is more than a sticker pack, VW said the W580 gets a new bumper and grille, a custom twin exhaust complete with side pipes at the rear wheels and a set of bespoke, Walkinshaw-designed rims exclusive to the W580; aptly named ‘Clayton’ (these arenโ€™t the wheels in the photos).

Walkinshaw has left the 200kW/580Nm engine alone but fiddled with the suspension, lifting the front end by 40mm to give the vehicle a โ€œmore aggressive overall stanceโ€ and the fitment of Pirelli Scorpion rubber.

Ryan Davies, Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Australia, said:

“We have always known what a powerhouse we have in the Amarok, but have always felt the range needed a proper GT-spec model. As the originators of the performance ute category, we looked no further than Walkinshaw to achieve thisโ€.

Perhaps even better than the W580 itself, the first 30 buyers who pre-order and purchase online will receive โ€œan all-expenses paid, money-can’t buy, ‘exclusive Walkinshaw experience’, which includes all flights, transfers, meals and accommodation to attend a Walkinshaw factory tour and a Walkinshaw Andretti United track dayโ€.
